Registration and card collection are managed by EBC. Current locations, opening hours and collection arrangements are published through EBC’s official channels.

Eligibility for registration is determined under the Barbados Identity Management Act. It includes citizens of Barbados and qualifying non-citizens who meet the applicable requirements. For current eligibility and registration requirements, consult EBC’s official guidance.

Relevant Barbados legislation includes the Identity Management Act, the Data Protection Act, the Electronic Transactions Act and other applicable laws governing identity, electronic transactions, cybersecurity and Government services. EBC is required under the Identity Management Act to protect the security and confidentiality of registered persons’ records and to apply safeguards against loss, unauthorised access, use or disclosure.

TRIDENT builds on the national identity foundation administered by EBC. It provides additional secure channels and Shared Capabilities through which trusted identity can be used across participating physical and digital services, while EBC retains its responsibilities under the applicable legal framework.

The Identity Management Act defines a national identity credential as an authenticated electronic record that facilitates verification of an individual’s identity in an electronic environment. It can support access to Government or private-sector goods and services where electronic identity verification is required.

The National Register is the register established, kept and maintained by EBC for persons registered under the Identity Management Act. It provides the authoritative identity foundation supporting Barbados’ national identification system.

Under the Barbados Identity Management Act, 2021, the Electoral and Boundaries Commission is responsible for the general administration of the Act. EBC establishes, keeps and maintains the National Register and is responsible for issuing national identification cards and national identity credentials to eligible registered persons.

TRIDENT ID is designed to give citizens visibility and control when they use their identity across participating services. Depending on the interaction, citizens can review authentication requests, confirm sensitive actions, and see and approve the information or digital credentials they are asked to present. Access to personal information is also governed by the purpose of the service, applicable law, permissions and security policies.

Yes. TRIDENT ID is designed to support different ways of proving and using identity rather than requiring everyone to rely on the same technology or channel. The TRIDENT ID Card, assisted services, online identity and mobile channels can coexist, helping services accommodate different needs, circumstances, accessibility requirements and levels of digital access.
