Does TRIDENT follow international standards?
Yes. TRIDENT is designed around internationally recognised standards and practices for digital identity, authentication, electronic credentials, card security, cryptography, interoperability and accessibility. The specific standards and technical profiles depend on the capability being used.
Does TRIDENT create one central database containing all Government information about me?
No. TRIDENT is designed to connect securely with authoritative sources rather than replace them with a single unrestricted database. The organisation responsible for an authoritative record remains responsible for that information, while TRIDENT provides controlled mechanisms for approved services to use it.
How does TRIDENT protect my personal information?
TRIDENT is designed to limit access to personal information to what is authorised and required for a specific interaction. Information exchanges are protected through defined access controls, permissions and security policies, while authoritative organisations remain responsible for the data under their mandate.
Is TRIDENT secure?
Security is built into the TRIDENT architecture across identity verification, authentication, data access, digital credentials and trust services. Different controls can be applied according to the sensitivity and risk of each interaction.
Can my organisation verify credentials presented from the TRIDENT Wallet?
Yes, where the organisation is authorised as a verifier. Participating services can integrate approved verification capabilities to request and validate trusted digital credentials presented by citizens.
Can my organisation issue a credential to the TRIDENT Wallet?
Authorised credential issuers can use TRIDENT Shared Services to support approved digital credentials linked to authoritative information. Credential definitions, issuance policies and integration requirements are established for each approved use case.
Can my organisation use TRIDENT ID for customer or user authentication?
Authorised organisations can integrate TRIDENT authentication into approved services, allowing users to authenticate with their trusted TRIDENT ID instead of creating a separate identity process for every participating service.
Do I need to replace my existing system to connect to TRIDENT?
No. TRIDENT is designed to complement existing applications and services. Organisations can integrate the Shared Capabilities they need while retaining responsibility for their own systems, processes, policies and decisions.
Where should my organisation start?
Start with the TRIDENT Integration Portal, where organisations and development teams can explore available use cases, APIs, technical documentation, access mechanisms and integration guidance.
Does TRIDENT ID replace the TRIDENT ID Card?
No. The TRIDENT ID Card is part of TRIDENT ID. TRIDENT ID expands the ways citizens can use their trusted identity through physical, online, mobile, and digital credential channels, while the TRIDENT ID Card remains an important national identification credential and identity channel.
